Entera Utility Contractors is a heavy civil and high voltage construction company that has steadily grown to one of the largest electrical utility contractors in Ontario. We are currently hiring for an energetic, self-directed person to join our Fleet team as a Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic.

Heavy-duty equipment mechanic’s repair, troubleshoot, adjust, overhaul and maintain mobile heavy-duty equipment used in construction, transportation, material handling, landscaping, and similar activities. They report to the Fleet Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Check heavy construction equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, using hand and power tools
  • Interpret technical manuals relating to manufacturer specifications and warranty requirements
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers' specifications
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment
  • Service attachments and working tools such as harvesting and tillage equipment, blades, ploughs, winches and side booms
  • Perform repair work on heavy trucks
    • Inspects, diagnoses, repairs, replaces and tests all components of gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines, engine starting systems, and steering and braking systems.
    • Inspects, diagnoses, adjusts, repairs, replaces and tests all components of clutches, hydraulic couplings, transmissions, transfer cases and axle assemblies.
    • Inspects, repairs, and re-assembles suspension systems, frames, wheels and tracks.
    • Inspects, repairs or replaces equipment winches, power take-offs, pneumatic or hydraulic pumps, booms, cables, blades and buckets.
    • Inspects, repairs, overhauls and re-assembles electrical components such as alternators, distributors, starters, relays and solenoids, etc.
    • Understanding of dielectric properties of boom and bucket trucks
  • Prepares work estimates of labour and parts costs; writes service reports
  • Other duties as assigned related to fleet repair and maintenance.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid 310T and/or 421A License

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience working on aerial devices and off-road equipment
  • Possess a clean Driver’s Abstract
  • Dealership experience is an asset
  • Willing and able to travel within the Greater Toronto Area
  • Experience with Heavy equipment and/or utility vehicles (e.g. Boom Truck, RBD, Arial Device, Crane truck, etc.)

License requirements: G – required. DZ/AZ is considered an asset

Knowledge, Abilities & Skills

  • Knowledge of the theories and operating principles of spark-ignition and diesel engines, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and heavy duty, multi-speed power trains
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work of the trade
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to interpret technical manuals and specifications
  • Skill in the use and care of a variety of hand and power tools and equipment of the trade
  • Understanding of the Highway traffic act on CVOR vehicles.
