Job Summary
As a Design Engineer, you provide a wide range of engineering support services that will ensure technical reliability, safety and cost effectiveness of the utility and its Electrical-Civil Distribution Power System. The Engineer is responsible of designing and drafting civil and electrical distribution projects. You will be involved in aspects of these projects including their implementation, coordination, review, and scheduling.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, create, modify or review civil and electrical design, approve, and stamp them

• Perform engineering calculations such as voltage drop, pole loading analysis, cable pulling calculation or review the calculations created by design technicians

• Select or verify adequately rated equipment or components, including appropriate cable/wire ampacities for electrical distribution system

• Obtain all necessary permits during design stage

• Ensure design compliance with all applicable code, industry standards, construction standards, design guidelines and utility best practice

• Incorporate failsafe practices and operational safety requirements into all designs

• Prepare and/or review construction packages, including all required drawings, work instructions, planning documentation, operating systems and regulatory approvals, where required

• Conduct routine field trips to verify or evaluate the condition/state of assets, to determine the feasibility of designs, to take detailed measurements • Assist in the review of designs, plans, drawings, surveys, studies (load, etc.) and/or calculations

• Prepare, create, modify, and review detailed technical studies and/or calculations; preparation of cost estimates; the creation of equipment specifications and installation standards; requests for quotation; evaluation of new equipment, and generate bill of material

• Assemble and verify bills of materials and cost estimate (being familiar with SAP is an asset)

• Help coordinate construction projects - liaise, consult and communicate with our customers

• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or utility related Engineering

• Member of Professional Engineer of Ontario PEO

• Demonstrated competence in computer drafting using Microstation and AutoCAD is obligatory

• Experience in the planning, design, and construction, within the utilities industry is an asset

• Sound knowledge of overhead and underground distribution system design

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

• Demonstrated competence in project management, time management, equipment procurement and construction coordination activities

• Complies with safety guidelines by wearing proper equipment, adopts efficient and safe work practices

• Provides professional customer service in a timely and effective manner and treats customers with respect

• Completes work in a timely and efficient manner, be able to work well independently with little supervision and attends work punctually

• Completes assigned work while adapting to changing volumes and pace of work

• Cooperative with supervisors and reports and interacts collaboratively and effectively with others

• Valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s license in the Province of Ontario is obligatory
